Comparison vs Competition

Is comparison equal to comptition?

I always thought you could compare something w/o creating a competitve environment. Comparison relates to seeing differences and similarities. Competition implies or mandates that something is or will be better. Correct?

So, if you say you like red and I say red's cool but I like purple. Is that competitive or is that comparison?

Someone has told me that my comparisons are always competitive. Is that possible?

I'm confused, so if you have any suggestions or comments let me know.
