By far the funniest take on the Nashville Rhythm fiasco

Anatomy of an ABA soap opera

From Fox Sports...

What possessed Anthony to shout and swear at Ashley McElhiney for playing popular newcomer Matt Freije, Vanderbilt's all-time leading scorer?

It's not clear yet whether Anthony, co-owner of the fledgling Nashville Rhythm, is to be ridiculed or pitied... Posted by Hello

Ashley Mc's story is news even in Canada

Rhythm centre calls co-owner's courtside firing of coach 'embarrassing'

Super Size Me

Holy Shit! This is an amazingly film.

It was funny, it was scary, it was real (as a documentary should be), it had a great soundtrack which included the mighty Otha Turner and the crazy Wesley Willis. Morgan did a great job with this...it's frightening to think what fast food can do to you, it's even more frightening how endemic poor nutrition has become in America.

If you ever get an itching for fast food you should see this movie.

Nashville B-ball drama continues

Questions surround McElhiney’s firing

There is something fishy going on with this whole thing and especially with Ms. Anthony.

The following comes from "Wherever You Go There You Are" by Jon Kabat-Zinn:
I see patience as one of these fundamental ethical attitudes. If you cultivate patience, you almost can't help cultivating mindfulness, and your meditation practive will gradually become richer and more mature.

Scratch the surface of impatience and what you will find lying beneath it, subtly or not so subtly, is anger.

It's possible even to hurry patiently, mindfully, moving fast because you have chosen to.

Rhythm owner fires McElhiney

I can't believe this woman has the nerve to fire my honey! ;-)

She sounds like an idiot:
"If they're willing to stick their neck out for Ashley, and that would be dumb, I would fold the team right now," she said. "If I say no it should be no. She's done. She's fired."

What ifs and contingencies

I've been studing Buddhism for awhile now, always looking for someone to help me make more sense of things in the world.

I just got a book from the library called "Living with the Devil" by Stephen Batchelor. He interprets Buddhist theory as a concept of contingencies...everything happens b/c something else happened. His first chapter opens with a story from his childhood where his mother says things would have been different if another man, a man in a photo, had been his father.

That got me thinking about the what ifs in my life. I rest on some of these every once and awhile, especially the time related to when my Mother died and I was about to graduate from high school. What if my mother had been here to help me choose a college, what if my mother helped me get through college, etc.

These can go on and on but as long as you don't dwell on them the take on the same spectre as what if I won the lottery. If you dwell on these what ifs it will drive you crazy.

But in the scope of what Mr. Batchelor is trying to say about Buddhism, everything is a what if. Every action has a result, you change any part of that action and the result will be different. Although Buddhism attempts to get the "you" out of the equation, I think this is a very positive way to consider how much power we have over what goes on in our lives.

What about you? Write me back, tell me what you think...

Buddhist Thought of the Day

Overcome your uncertainties and free yourself from dwelling on sorrow. If you delight in existence, you will become a guide to those who need you, revealing the path to many.

Please read the bill first. A lot of bills are really good on the surface but not so good underneath. This is an important issue and I hope Mr. Kerry has a good bill (I haven't read it yet).

You should always contact your legislators when there is an issue that's important to you. It's great when you put your voice behind something but if your legislators don't know their constituents are asking for something they won't lend their voice to the debate.

New music of note.

Some of you know how much I LOVE Southern Soul Music.

To me there is little more compelling and gut wrenching than the stuff that was recorded in Muscle Shoals, Memphis and Miami during the 1960s (Think Aretha, Otis, The Wicked Pickett, Albert King, Rufus & Carla, King Curtis, Derek & the Dominos and sooo many more).

Willie Hightower is a singer who didn't have near as much success as he should have.

Thanks Astralwerks!

Buddhist Thought of the Day

What is meant by nonduality, Mahatmi?
It means that light and shade, long and short, black and white, can only be experienced in relation to each other; light is not independent of shade, nor black of white. There are no opposites, only relationships. In the same way, nirvana and the ordinary world of suffering are not two things but related to each other. There is no nirvana except where the world of suffering is; there is no world of suffering apart from nirvana. For existence is not mutually exclusive.

Buddhist Thought of the Day

Never think that I believe I should set out a "system of teaching" to help people understand the way. Never cherish such a thought. What I proclaim is the truth as I have discovered it and "a system of teaching" has no meaning because the truth can't be cut up into pieces and arranged in a system.

Abut Bama Works Village Recovery Fund
Bama Works Fund (Charlottesville, Virginia) was established by Dave Matthews Band to carry out the band's commitment to charitable works both close to home and around the world. Buddhist Thought of the Day

There is no other task but to know your own original face. This is called independence; the spirit is clear and free. If you say there is some particular doctrine or patriarchy, you’ll be totally cheated. Just look into your heart; there is a transcendental clarity. Just have no greed and no dependency and you will immediately attain certainty.
