"A Bookstore Guy"

Former Vice President Al Gore is in the middle of a campaign -- this time to promote the environmental message of his new book and documentary film, An Inconvenient Truth . And among his most recent stops were several independent bookstores -- Olsson's Books & Records Penn Quarter store in Washington, D.C.; Davis-Kidd Booksellers in Nashville, Tennessee; and Dutton's Beverly Hills Books in Beverly Hills. Yup. This is us. It was an insane number of people but it was incident free. Al was really gracious and the ever adorable Ginger Knight had it all under control. She didn't do it by herself but personal bias dictates that I must single her out. ;-) Davis-Kidd marketing manager Ginger Knight reported a flawless, extremely popular event. "We were thrilled with the turnout. We had over 800 people here." Gore signed 750 of the 1,000 copies sold. Technorati Tags: al gore , environment , independent bookstore

We've all heard it, "never go to the grocery when hungry". Why? B/c you buy all sorts of crap you don't need or want. Here are 16 other money saving tips : 1. Don’t shop for groceries if you’re hungry. 2. Shop with a list. Make a list and stick to it. 3. Choose a grocery store and learn its prices. 4. Buy in bulk, when possible. 5. Use coupons, but only to buy things you actually need (or want to try). 11. Use coupons for staple foods and ingredients, not highly-processed foods. 12. Take advantage of special coupons whenever possible. 13. For maximum savings, combine coupons with in-store sales. 14. Plan your meals around what’s on sale. 15. Examine sale flyers carefully. 16. I think this is a valid post about what we are looking toward for our US National Team. We have some young players with experience, like DeMarcus & even Landon. We have some really young players with experience, like Clint, EJ & Gooch. South Africa 2010 should be good. Technorati Tags: soccer , us soccer , demarcus beasley , world cup

Heros

Image
The Boxing Mirror by Alejandro Escovedo John Cale is one of Alejandro’s heros. It makes sense that if he offered to produce Al would let him. I don’t like John Cale’s production. The songs are a mishmash of previously released and previously unreleased. The songs range from pretty good to really good. The production sounds like 80s arena rock (without the crazy guitars). Al is back and you should catch him on tour where he & his songs ALWAYS shine bright. (Sorry no details. It’s early and I don’t have the CD at hand.) See more about The Boxing Mirror

No Brainer

Yes, the US needs to get the offense started . They can't win if they don't score and they need to win! I was proud of them against Italy. I liked their aggressiveness, I liked confidence. I liked their vision. I didn't like their continued lack of shots. Where the hell is McBride? If they are gonna use the 4-5-1 they have to have at least two mids and one forward who will shoot. Where was Eddie Johnson? Technorati Tags: soccer , world cup , USA

Tara got this in the mail recently and we both thought it was brilliant. Obviously it only works with certain people at certain times. Tara had read enough about Closer to recognize that this was a marketing ploy. I probably wouldn't have figured it out that quickly.

Year 2

This time last year Tara and I were just married. Now, depending on whether you go by day or date we were doing different things. On this date last year we were spending our wedding night in the lovely Hermitage Hotel . On this day last year we were on an American Airlines flight heading toward Madrid (Tara didn't know Granada was the final destination). In honor of this weekend last year Tara and I went to Cumberland Mountain State Park . Buddhist Thought of the Day

In reply to the question, 'What is the best that people can possess, what brings them truest happiness, what is the sweetest of the sweet, and what is the pleasantest life to live?' the Buddha answered: 'Trust is the best that people can possess; following the way brings happiness; truth is the sweetest of the sweet; and the practice of insight is the pleasantest way to live.'
